Social media post size guide 2022

Imagine you post a picture on any of the social media platforms and the result is a cropped picture!


It happens when the picture you posted isn’t sized as per the size specified by the platform. Media sizes are not only important for posts but also for profile pictures and cover pictures. After all, that is the first thing a user sees when he/she lands on your profile. As a brand, you don’t want them to see a half logo, right?


To make it easier for you, we’ve created a detailed “Social Media Size Guide” (as of May 2022).


Facebook

  • Facebook Page

    • Profile picture: 170 x 170 px

    • Cover picture: 820 x 312 px

    • Make sure that logo elements are centered as the profile picture of a Facebook page is circled when displayed and when the user expands, it is displayed in a square.

    • The cover photo should be min. 400 x 150 px.


  • Facebook Post

    • Facebook recommends 1200 x 630 px.

    • Photos can be in vertical (1080 x 1350 px)

    • The posts can be between 1:1 to 1.91:1 aspect ratio.

    • Carousel posts with 2-10 images / videos: 1200 x 1200 px

    • Video post: 1280 x 720 px

    • Video can be landscape (16:9) or portrait (9:16)

    • Video duration: Maximum 240 minutes

    • Maximum file size: 4 GB


  • Facebook Group

    • Facebook group cover photo: 1,640px x 856 px


  • Facebook Stories

    • Facebook stories size: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Facebook story lapses in 5 seconds for photos and 20 seconds for videos


  • Facebook Ads

    • Facebook feed ads image size: At least 1080 x 1080 px (recommend 1.91:1 aspect ratio)

    • Facebook right column image ads size: At least 1080 x 1080 px (recommend 1:1 aspect ratio)

    • Facebook Instant articles ads size: At least 1080 x 1080 px (recommend 1.91:1 to 1:1 aspect ratio)

    • Facebook marketplace ads mage size: At least 1080 x 1080 px (recommend 1:1 aspect ratio)

    • Facebook stories ads: At least 1080 x 1080 px (aspect ratio of 9:16). Minimum width: 500 px

    • Facebook search result ads image size: At least 1080 x 1080 px (aspect ratio from 1.91:1 to 1:1). Minimum width and height of 600 px

    • Facebook recommends 1,080 x 1,350 px for images with a link. It should be min 479 x 246 px on desktop and on mobile min width 320 px.

    • Maximum file size for Facebook Image ads is 30 MB.

    • Facebook Video ads size: At least 1080 x 1080 px (aspect ratio of 1:1).

File type: MP4, MOV or GIF

Duration: 1 second to 240 minutes

Minimum width and height: 120 px

Maximum file size: 4 GB

  • Facebook Carousel ads size: At least 1080 x 1080 px (aspect ratio of 1:1). Number of carousel cards can be 2-10

  • Facebook Messenger ads size: At least 1080 x 1080 px (aspect ratio of 1:1). Minimum 254 x 133 px

Instagram


  • Instagram Profile Picture

    • Instagram profile picture: 320 x 320 px

    • Make sure your logo or profile picture is centered as Instagram profile picture is displayed in a circle.


  • Instagram Post

    • Instagram post image size:

Landscape: 1080 x 566 px

Square: 1080 x 1080 px

Portrait: 1080 x 1350 px

Maximum file size: 30 MB

  • Instagram photo thumbnail: 161 x 161 px

  • The picture posted on Instagram should have a width of min 320 px and max 1080 px. Any picture wider than 1080 px will be cropped to 1080 px.

  • The picture to be uploaded should have an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 4:5.

  • Instagram video size: From 1080 x 608 px (landscape) to 1080 x 1350 px (portrait)

  • Duration: Maximum 1 minute


  • Instagram Video

    • Instagram video vertical size: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Instagram video horizontal size: 1920 x 1080 px

    • Instagram video cover photo size: 420 x 654 px (1:1.55 ratio)

    • Video with aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 9:16 can be uploaded.

    • Minimum resolution: 720 px

    • Instagram gives an option of preview of videos on feed, which can be maximum 60 seconds

    • Instagram video duration: 60 minutes

    • Instagram video size:

      • 650 MB for videos that are 10 minutes or less

      • 3.6 GB for video up to 60 minutes

    • Recommend 1080 x 1350 px as Instagram app doesn’t rotate on mobile.


  • Instagram Reels

    • Instagram reel size: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Duration: Up to 60 seconds

    • Maximum file size: 4 GB

    • Reels have an aspect ratio of 9:16.

    • They are shown in 1:1 in profile and 4:5 in feed.

    • Also, if you’re adding text to your reel make sure it is not covered by the profile details at the bottom, likes, comments, save, share on right, and text on top.

    • Your text-safe zone is 1:1.


  • Instagram Stories

    • Instagram story size: 1080 x 1920 px

    • As in Reels, stories also have text on top and at the bottom, so your safe area for stories is 1080 x 1420 px.

    • Instagram story highlights are stories saved on your profile.

    • Instagram Story highlights size: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Instagram Story highlight cover image size: 864 x 864 px

    • Story duration: 15 seconds


  • Instagram Ads

    • Instagram feed ads size: 1080 x 1080 px recommended (aspect ratio of 1:1)

    • Instagram carousel ads size: 1080 x1080 px (aspect ratio of 1:1). Number of carousel cards: 2-10

    • Instagram story ads size: 1080 x 1920 px (aspect ratio of 9:16)

    • Instagram story ads duration: Maximum 2 minutes

    • Instagram story ads video size: Maximum 4 MB

    • Instagram in-stream video ads: Preview of 15 seconds. Specs same as Instagram video

    • Instagram Ads can be anywhere between the ratio of 16:9 to 9:16 in the feed. However, they can be masked to 1:1 ratio.

LinkedIn

  • LinkedIn Personal Profile

    • LinkedIn profile picture: 400 x 400 px to 7680 x 4320 px. Maximum file size: 8 MB

    • LinkedIn banner or cover photo: 1584 x 396 px

    • LinkedIn profile picture is displayed in a circle. Make sure your picture is centered.


  • LinkedIn Company Page

    • LinkedIn company logo size: 300 x 300 px

    • LinkedIn company cover photo size: 1128 x 191 px


  • LinkedIn Post

    • LinkedIn single or multi-image post size: 1080 x 1080 px (square) or 1920 x 1080 px(portrait). Maximum image file size: 5 MB

    • Minimum image size for LinkedIn post: 552 x 276 px

    • LinkedIn image sizes for blog post link images: 1200 x 627 px

    • LinkedIn video size: 256 x 144 px to 4096 x 2304 px

    • LinkedIn video duration: 3 secs to 10 minutes

    • LinkedIn video file size: Maximum 5 GB

    • Media files supported on LinkedIn: Adobe PDF (.pdf), Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt/.pptx), Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx), .jpg/.jpeg, .png, .gif (not supported on profile or background photos)

    • Maximum file size: 100 MB

    • Documents can have up to 300 pages.


  • LinkedIn Ads

    • LinkedIn single image ads size: 1200 x 628 px (horizontal), 1200 x 1200 px (square), or 628 x 1200 px (vertical - 1:1.91,2:3, 4:5). Maximum file size: 5 MB

    • LinkedIn carousel ads size: 1080 x 1080 px. Number of carousel cards: 2-1. Maximum file size: 10 MB

    • LinkedIn video ads size: Ratio 4:5 ( can be 9:16, 16:9, 1:1)

    • LinkedIn video ads duration: 3 seconds to 30 minutes. Maximum video file size: 200 MB

Twitter

  • Twitter Profile

    • Twitter profile image size: 400 x 400 px

    • Twitter profile header image size: 1500 x 500 px


  • Twitter In-stream Photo

    • Twitter in-stream photo size: 1600 x 900 px (recommended)

    • Although Twitter now allows portrait images, it is best if the aspect ratio is 16:9. Apart from this, any aspect ratio between 2:1 and 1:1 for desktop, and 2:1, 3:4 and 16:9 for mobile is recommended


  • Twitter Video Size

    • Horizontal: 1280 x 1024 px (recommended)

    • Vertical: 1200 x 1900 px (recommended)

    • Any video between the aspect ratio of 1:2.39 and 2.39:1 works.


  • Twitter Ads

    • Twitter image ads size: Recommends 800 x 418 px for 1.91:1 aspect ratio and 800 x 800 px for 1:1. Maximum file size: 5 MB

    • Twitter video ads size:

      • Recommends video with aspect ratio of 1:1 or 16:9

      • Video duration: Recommend 15 seconds, but can be up to 140 seconds

      • Maximum file size: Can be up to 1 GB. Recommend to keep it under 30 MB

    • Twitter carousel ads

      • Twitter image carousel ads size: 800 x 418 px for 1.91:1 aspect ratio and 800 x 800 pixels for 1:1 aspect ratio

      • Twitter video carousel ads size: 800 x 450 px for 16:9 aspect ratio and 800 x 800 pixels for 1:1 aspect ratio.

      • Number of carousel cards / slides: 2-6 (images and videos)

YouTube

  • YouTube Channel

    • YouTube channel profile picture size: 800 × 800 px

    • YouTube channel banner / art size: 2560 x 1440 px. Maximum file size: 6 MB

    • The safe area for banner is 1235 x 338 px as the banner is covered by profile picture on the left


  • YouTube Video

    • YouTube video size: 1280 x 720 px. Maximum upload file size: 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less

    • YouTube video thumbnail size: 1280 x 720 px. Maximum file size: 2 MB

Pinterest

  • Pinterest Profile

    • Pinterest profile picture size: 165 x 165 px

    • Pinterest cover photo size: 800 x 450 px (16:9)


  • Pinterest Pins / Posts

    • Pinterest standard pin size: 1000 x 1500 px (2:3). Maximum file size: 20 MB

    • Pinterest video pin size: Square (1:1) or Vertical (2:3 or 9:16). Maximum file size: Up to 2 GB

    • Pinterest carousel pin size:

      • Aspect ratio of 1:1 or 2:3

      • Number of carousel images: 2-5

      • Maximum file size: 32 MB per image

    • Pinterest collection pin size:

      • 1 hero creative and 3-24 secondary creatives

      • Hero creative can be image of 1:1 or 2:3 aspect ratio or video (4 seconds-15 minutes) of 1:1, 2:3 or 9:16 aspect ratio.

      • 1:1 aspect ratio is recommended for secondary images but can be 2:3.

      • Maximum file size: 10 MB for images and 2 GB for video

    • Pinterest Idea pin size:

      • Idea Pins appear as a set of multiple videos, images, lists and custom text in a single Pin.

      • Idea pin aspect ratio: It must be 9:16

      • Images and videos in idea pin can be of any aspect ratio

      • Idea pin size: Maximum 1 GB

      • Video duration: 3-60 seconds


  • Pinterest Ads

    • All the pins can be advertised and the specs remain the same except for Max. width video ads, which are available only in a paid format.

    • Max. Width Video Ads

      • Max. width video ads size: Square (1:1) or widescreen (16:9)

      • Video duration: 4 seconds to 15 minutes

      • Maximum file size: 2 GB
